Week 32 ratings: Zee TV slips, while all Hindi GECs surge ahead

Except for Zee TV, all Hindi GECs witnessed a rise in ratings during Week 32 (August 3-9) of 2014.

As per the latest data from TAM subscribers, Week 32 saw Star Plus garner significant gains from last week that saw the channel cross the 700-million GVT mark once again. The channel rose to 712 million GVTs from 677 million GVTs in Week 31. Top shows such as ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’, ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya’ and ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ continued to push the channel’s ratings, increasing by 10.0 TVMs from 9.3 TVMs, 7.1 TVMs from 6.9 TVMs and 7.3 TVMs from 7.0 TVMs in the previous week, respectively. ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ made major gains, increasing to 6.4 TVMs from 5.8 TVMs last week, while ‘Mahabharat’ continued to be at 9.1 TVMs this week as well.

Zee TV, on the other hand, saw a decline in its ratings from 438 million GVTs in Week 31 to 415 million GVTs in Week 32, but maintained its No. 2 position. Most of its shows saw a decline in ratings, with top show ‘Jodha Akbar’ witnessing a steep decline in ratings from 8.6 TVMs last week to 7.3 TVMs in Week 32. ‘Qubool Hai’ also declined marginally to 5.4 TVMs from 5.5 TVMs last week. Meanwhile, ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ increased marginally to 7.6 TVMs from 7.5 TVMs and ‘Cinestars Ki Khoj’ stayed the same at 1.9 TVMs. On the other hand, new show ‘Jamai Raja’ made great start by recording 5.5 TVMs during its first week.

Colors followed closely behind at third place, while managing to increase its distance from fourth placed Life OK. The channel increased to 403 million GVTs from 375 million GVTs in the previous week. Though most shows saw an increase, it was top show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ that yet again rules the roost in Colors, increasing to 8.6 TVMs from 6.8 TVMs in the previous week. The show during this week featured stars such as Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor promoting their latest movie ‘Singham Returns’ on one show and Akshay Kumar, Tamannah, Mithun and Johnny Lever promoting their latest film ‘Entertainment’ on another. Talk show ‘The Anupam Kher Show’, which featured actors Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri in Week 32, witnessed a rise in ratings to 1.9 TVMs from 1.6 TVMs last week. While daily soaps such as ‘Balika Vadhu’ and ‘Sasural Simar Ka’ grew significantly to 5.0 TVMs and 5.7 TVMs, respectively, in Week 32. ‘Shastri Sisters’ saw a marginal increase to 1.4 TVMs from 1.2 TVMs last week.

Life OK saw a marginal increase in its ratings from 311 million GVTs in Week 31 to 312 GVTs in Week 32 to stay at No. 4 spot. While the channel’s top show ‘Saavdhan India’ declined to 2.4 TVMs from 2.8 TVMs last week, ‘Shapath’ saw an increase in viewership to 2.8 TVMs from 2.1 TVMs in the previous week. ‘Gustak Dil’ declined to 1.8 TVMs from 2.0 TVMs in the previous week. Newly launched show ‘Laut Aao Trisha’ stayed put at 1.7 TVMs.

Sony Entertainment Television (SET), too, saw a marginal gain in its ratings for the week, climbing up to 278 million GVTs from 275 million GVTs last week. The channel continued to be placed in the fifth position. Sony has high hopes pinned on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ Season 8 (KBC: Sony's knight in shining armour?), which is set to premiere on Sunday, to capture audience interests.

Sab TV is placed sixth and has gained from last week to increase to 277 million TVMs in Week 32 from 265 million TVMs in the previous week.

New Hindi GEC channel Zindagi, too, saw a slight increase in its viewership from 25 million GVTs last week to 26 million GVTs in Week 32.
