Vijay TV to unleash star mania with Vijay Awards

Following the overwhelming response for shows such as ‘Hutch Kalakkapovathu Yaaru’ and ‘Airtel Super Singer’, Vijay TV in its effort to provide its viewers wholesome entertainment is gearing up to launch ‘Ungal Favourite Yaar?’ (Who is your favourite star?), a Tamil film award property, Vijay Awards.

Unlike other awards selection mode, where a panel of doyens from a particular sphere selects the best performers, fans from across Tamil Nadu would get a chance to select their favourite actors and actresses in multiple platforms through voting methods.

The results would be announced at an exclusive Golden Globe style round table dinner attended by actors such as Vijay, Vikram, Surya, Asin and several others. The star-studded extravaganza to be held at the Chennai Convention Centre for a select 300 people would also see the performances by Shobana, Srinivas-Karthik and Sada, among others.

Vijay Awards was fun, irreverent and not like other politically correct award ceremonies, insisted Vijay TV officials. The channel is planning to launch the programme in a unique manner.

The show would be on air from September 25 from Monday to Thursday between 9 pm and 9.30 pm. Yugi Sethu, who stole the hearts of thousands of Tamilians across the world with ‘Naiyandi Tharbar’, which was aired in Vijay TV a few years ago, will host the event.

Sources from Vijay TV said that ‘Rasigan Express’, a fully decked up van, will be flagged off from Chennai on September 23 and will travel across Tamil Nadu. The van will cover as many as 14 cities – Chennai, Pondicherry, Kumbakonam, Tanjore, Trichy, Madurai, Dindigul, Palani, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Vellore and Kanchipuram.

Two prime locations would be selected from each of the 14 cities and where fans can place their votes for their favourite stars in specially set up ballot boxes. Ravinath Menon, General Manager, Vijay TV, said, “Vijay TV has been a successful entertainer for a while. Now with the launch of programmes such as ‘Sangamam’, ‘Hutch Kalakkapovathu Yaaru’, ‘Airtel Super Singer’, ‘EQ’ and Vijay Awards, we further aim to consolidate our positioning in the weekday/weekend prime-time slot and stay on with our single-minded endeavour to provide compelling entertainment content for the viewers.”

The channel had recently launched the second edition of ‘Hutch Kalakkapovathu Yaaru’ and is gearing up for the second edition of ‘Airtel Super Singer’.
