Vijay TV on a programme revamp mode, to launch a bouquet of new shows

Vijay TV is out to strengthen its weekday primetime viewing with the launch of a slew of new programmes after setting the ball rolling with ‘Hutch Kalakkapovathu Yaaru’, ‘Airtel Super Singer’ and the recently launched ‘Jodi No. 1’.

On the anvil are three soaps – ‘Amaran’, ‘Kana Kaanum Kaalangal’ and ‘Kanden Seethaiyei’, which will be launched on October 30. ‘Amaran’, a sci-fi thriller, is the modern adaptation of the Ramayana and boasts of some spectacular special effects that is bound to keep the kids spellbound. The serial will be aired at 7.30 pm.

‘Kanna Kaanum Kaalangal’ is a soap focusing on the life of school kids and will air at 8 pm, Monday to Thursday. The channel will also launch another family melodrama, ‘Kanden Seethaiyae’, which will star popular Tamil actress Kaushalya, and is the the story of a struggling woman. Shot in Singapore, Vijay TV sources promised that ‘Kanden Seethaiyae’ would be a visual treat for viewers.

Meanwhile, the channel would also be coming up with a range of shows in the 3-5 pm slot, which would primarily focus on the female audience. These shows would be replete with news-one-can-use interlaced with some super hit songs.

At 3 pm the channel would air a show called ‘Shopping Sundari’, where the anchor would take viewers through some of the hottest shopping locations in the city. She would also give some shopping tips to the viewers. Another programme, ‘Ladies Club’, would create a platform for women to raise their voice against violence against women. This open forum would be anchored by Shailaja.

‘Dum Dum Dum’ would be a show dealing with various matrimony issues and would be hosted by Gayathri Priya. Another programme planned is ‘Point to Point’, a travelogue, where hostess Priyanka would take the viewers on a joyride to unusual places. The channel is also planning to change the time slot of several programmes to make them more vibrant and attract more viewers.

Speaking about the changes, Ravinath Menon, General Manager, Vijay TV, said, “With this makeover, the look and the feel of the channel would change and viewers will have wholesome entertainment round the clock in their drawing room. The makeover would also help the channel to improve its channel share, which is very important from the revenue perspective. Our new shows would attract viewers of all age groups.”
