Vijay TV gears up for second edition of ‘Airtel Super Singer’ senior

Following the huge success of ‘Airtel Super Singer’ junior and senior editions in 2006 and 2007, respectively, Vijay TV is all set to launch the second edition of ‘Airtel Super Singer Senior’. The show will take off on July 7 and will be aired Monday to Wednesday at 9 pm. This year’s show, like the earlier edition, will scout for best singing talent in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay TV has brought in some changes in the show to make it more engaging and appealing to the audience, though the core concept remains the same. The new show will run for more than 40 weeks on the channel.

‘Airtel Super Singer 2008’ provides a platform for those above 16 years of age to showcase their singing talent. This season, like the last one, will witness many experts from the music industry judge the talent on view. Apart from gaining recognition from many acclaimed singers, the winner of ‘Airtel Super Singer 2008’ gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to sing to the music composed by the talented and young music director Yuvan Shankar Raja, son of the maestro Ilayaraja. Vijay TV has also tied up with Big Music to come up with an album that will feature the finalists of the contest.

Announcing the new show, Pradeep Milroy Peter, Head of Programming, Vijay TV, said, “We kicked off the first season of ‘Airtel Super Singer Senior’ in 2006, which was very well received by the audience. Emboldened by the success of the senior edition, we launched the ‘Super Singer Junior’. Though we had our own doubts about the success of junior edition, the show was a bigger hit than the ‘Super Singer Senior’. And we are confident of replicating the same success with the second edition ‘Super Singer Senior’.”

Rajiv Rajgopla, CEO, Mobile Services, Chennai & Tamil Nadu, Bharti Airtel Ltd, said, “We at Airtel have been pleased with the extreme popularity this contest has garnered in the last few years. We are proud to associate ourselves with the show and are sure that this incredible platform will be utilised completely by all the potential singers.”

Popular playback singers Sunitha Sarathy and Deepan Chakravarthy will be the judges for the ground auditions in Chennai, which will be held on June 27. Vijay TV has already conducted auditions in Coimbatore and Trichy.

Vijay TV has launched high-decibel marketing blitzkrieg spanning over a month to promote the show. The channel will use radio, print and outdoor to create awareness about the show among the people of Tamil Nadu. Radio Mirchi is the official radio partner of the show, while Kumudam is the official print partner and Spencer’s is the official outdoor partner.
