Vijay TV confident of locking in Tamil audiences with KBC2

While the nation gears up for the launch of KBC2 on August 5, Vijay TV is readying its audience for the same, albeit dubbed in Tamil language. The channel is launching the dubbed version of the game show in the same time band so that the audience in Tamil Nadu does not miss the magic because of the prevalent language barrier.

Vijay TV is confident that versatile cine star and programme host Amitabh Bachchan will captivate the Tamil audience too. Harsh Rohatgi, DGM, Vijay TV, said “Amitabh Bachchan is a pan India phenomenon, and he cuts across geographical boundaries and that’s a plus. KBC had a huge following in Tamil Nadu when it was on air in 2000.”

Currently, the channel is in the process of conducting auditions for the best Tamil voice-fit to match Bachchan’s deep baritone. Well-known cine stars, with whom Tamil audience will relate to spontaneously, have already been shortlisted.

According to the channel, the retail market is already showing keen interest in being associated with a show of such scale and grandeur, and is hopeful of significant revenue gain from advertisers and retail from across the country.

Also, following the huge response that India’s Child Genius got from the state earlier, the channel is positive of getting the same, if not more, from the audience here, especially now that it is going vernacular.

Intense outdoor campaigns with innovative on ground activaties, hoardings, press and radio activities are being planned, and so is a new game show called Vasool Rani. While the hour-long KBC2 will run in the Friday- Sunday, 9:00 pm band, Vijay TV is planning on retaining its audience over the week days as well with Vasool Rani, from Monday to Thursday in the 9:30 pm to 10:00 pm slot.

Rohatgi is confident of the dubbed version’s success, “Given that Chennai is a CAS market with the set top box penetration, only around 6-7 per cent of the audience will watch the Hindi version. KBC2 would be watched more on Vijay TV,” he asserted. With family dramas filling up screens across the country, Vijay TV is banking on game shows to bring about a refreshing change.
