Vijay Singh named President, Strategy & Corporate Development, STAR India

Putting to rest industry speculations on Vijay Singh and his role at STAR, STAR India has announced that Singh joins the company as President, Strategy & Corporate Development, and will be reporting to Paul Aiello, acting Chief Executive Officer of the company.

In this newly created role, Singh will be responsible for developing business directions for STAR India, while taking an active role in the company’s businesses in India. He will oversee corporate functions including strategic planning, business development, human resources, legal, government affairs, MIS, administration and corporate communications. Singh will join STAR India in April this year.

Commenting on Singh’s appointment, Aiello said, “Vijay is a veteran executive with a huge breadth of experience. We are fortunate to have attracted him to join us. His business acumen and unique insights about India and other developing markets will be invaluable as STAR India readies itself for its next phase of growth and expansion.”

Said Singh, “It is incredibly exciting to be a part of the leading television network in the country. STAR India has not only defined the ‘entertainment experiences’ of the nation, but has also been a trailblazer in the realm of cable and satellite entertainment. I am especially looking forward to working with Paul, as well as the talented local team, and applying my experience to STAR’s businesses.”

Prior to joining STAR, Singh was Managing Director, Developing Markets, for The Tetley Group, London, where he was responsible for extending the Tetley brand across a number of countries through a combination of organic growth, joint ventures and acquisitions.

Between 1996 and 2002, Singh was Managing Director, Sony Music Entertainment, India, where he set up the company from scratch, taking it to a leading position in the Indian music industry. Prior to that, he had served as CEO, Walt Disney Consumer Products, India, and was Marketing Controller at Brooke Bond-Lipton (Unilever India). Between 1977 and 1991, Singh was part of the Tata Administrative Services, and held a number of roles, including Marketing Controller, at Titan Watches.

Singh holds an MBA from Bombay University’s Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies and a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Delhi University.
