UTV kids channel builds marketing team

UTV, the Pan Asian media and entertainment integrated company, has appointed Shalini Rawla Vice President, Marketing for its upcoming kids channel. Prior to this, Rawla was with Contract Advertising as Vice President Accounts Manager.

Rawla has 10 years of advertising experience. She has worked with Lintas, Ambience and Contract. She has been closely involved in creating the communications package for several new brand launches like Cadbury Chocki, Cadbury Bytes, Cadbury Celebrations, Parx Readymade men's apparel etc. and has been responsible for engineering the success of scores of others.

Commenting on her new assignment, Rawal says, "I look forward to being part of the UTV team, leveraging my experience, and working towards achieving the common goals set for the channel. The transition from advertising to marketing is an exhilarating new challenge. Advertising is more like grooming a kid to be presentable when he goes to school while marketing is like experiencing childbirth itself.”

The channel will be launched by United Home Entertainment (UHE), a company floated by Ronnie Screwvala – CEO, UTV & UTV.

Purnendu Bose - COO New Ventures, UTV remarks, “We are pleased to have Shalini as part of the team at UTV. She strengthens the core team with her in-depth understanding of research and rich marketing experience with some of the top FMCG and retail brands in the country.”

Rawal will be responsible for overseeing all marketing and brand building efforts for the channel. The yet-to-be-named channel for youngsters between 4-18 will be the first channel to have localised content made by an Indian company. The channel aims to go on air by September 2004 and will have 100 per cent Hindi content.
