Uttar Pradesh comes under Channel 7 scanner with ‘Satta ka Hisaab’

After the successful evaluation of the UPA Government, Channel 7 will now conduct a ‘state-check’ on Uttar Pradesh, following the completion of two years of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

The channel will be airing a special series titled ‘Satta ka Hisaab’ to evaluate the two years of the Samajwadi Party under the leadership of Mulayam Singh Yadav. The series will broadcast daily on Channel 7 from 7 pm to 8 pm from August 25-28.

Piyush Jain, the channel’s COO, said, “We ran a special series on the performance of the UPA Government and now since the Mulayam government has completed two years, we thought that it was time for a reality check. In fact, UP is a state where the government has never stayed for more than five years.”

Jain added that the new show would be a daily one-hour special programme featuring exclusive interviews and debates related to prominent issues in Uttar Pradesh. There will be interviews with other leading politicians like Mayawati (BSP), Kalyan Singh, Pramod Tiwari (Congress) and Rajnath Singh (BJP). The channel is also working out an exclusive half-an-hour interview with the Chief Minister himself.

A travelogue – Lucknow Mail – would be played throughout the day. In this, Channel 7 reporters travelling across UP will be gathering feedback from people across the state on the performance of the Mulayam Government.

“The reporters will visit Amethi, Rae Bareli, Lucknow, Kanpur, Kanauj (the constituency from where Mulayam won) and Safei (Mulayam’s village) and track the developments in these cities,” Jain said.

He stressed that the coverage would be objective, non-biased and “truthful comments from the masses will not be edited”. Asked if this programme was a result of Mulayam lashing out at the media over the ‘plot allotment controversy’, Jain denied, stating that the channel just wanted to conduct a state check.

Each episode of ‘Satta Ka Hisaab’ will open with critical concerns such as law and order, industrial development and power supply in UP, supported by excerpts from the travelogue – Lucknow Mail. The programme will cover these issues in detail in three episodes on August 25, 26 and 27 from Meerut, Varanasi and Kanpur, respectively.

On August 28, Channel 7 will be airing an hour-long debate from Lucknow on the performance of the Mulayam government in its first two years. In this, industrialists, youth, political analysts and journalists will confront a panel of leaders with the issues concerning them.

On August 29, the findings of an exclusive survey on two years of the Mulayam Government will be released. The survey is focussed on key target groups like industrialists, IIM/IIT students, housewives and government officials, to get a comprehensive perspective on all issues.
