TV channels, radio stations line up special programmes for Mother's Day

With Mother's Day just a day away, television channels and radio stations have lined up special programmes for the occasion. Besides them, various other companies are also trying to cash in with special initiatives and goodies.

Movie channels have some exciting line-ups for the day. To begin with, HBO will air special movies -- Stepmom, I Am Sam, Maid In Manhattan to name a few -- from morning till evening on May 8.

Speaking on the special programming, Shruti Bajpai, Country Manager, HBO South Asia, said, "HBO has always lived up to its promise of delivering something for everyone. Keeping in sync with our practice of delivering the best, HBO salutes the spirit of motherhood with a special line-up showcasing mothers of the modern world."

Family entertainment channel Hallmark has been showing a week-long array of movies like Annie's Point, Life on Liberty Street, The Blackwater Lightship. Amitabh, Country Manager, India and South Asia, Hallmark Channel, said, "Hallmark is about relationships and among the different relationships, mother's love is the purest."

Star Movies on the other hand will be airing two movies back to back on May 8. The channel will be airing 'Look Who's Talking Too' and 'Parenthood' on the special occasion.

Ajay Vidyasagar, Senior Vice President, Marketing and PR, Star Movies, said, "On 8th May, Star Movies will play tribute to those who do the most difficult jobs in the world- Mothers. And we have not merely clubbed together any odd women centric movies under the umbrella of Mother's Day special but are showcasing movies that take an insightful yet fun filled look at the trials and tribulations of motherhood."

National Geographic Channel will be showcasing a two-hour special programme called 'In the Womb' on Sunday at 7 pm. Pankaj Krishna, Brand Manager, National Geographic Channel, said, "The two-hour programming stunt will give the viewers, for the first time, an insight into the development of the foetus in the womb right from the conception period to the moment of birth."

A week-long celebration has already been on Radio Mirchi. The station has made an attempt to profile all those women who have gone beyond the call of duty and done exceptional things for their children through its programme, 'Khoobsurat', which will culminate on May 8. Besides, there are two contests called 'Kyunki Maa Bhi Kabhi Beti Thi,' and 'RAAZMA-Mummy Ko Sab Pata Hai' contest.

Said Nandan Srinath, Senior VP and Regional Head, North and East, Radio Mirchi, "The medium of radio is all about flexibility, adaptability and suitability for modern lifestyles. Radio Mirchi has always been a station for the people of Delhi, addressing their concerns, playing their music, speaking their language and participating in their celebrations and Mother's Day is one of those special days very close to everyone's heart."

Red FM has also some special initiatives for the day. The station has lined up dedications, requests besides they are also running interactive contests. It will be also interacting with celebrity mothers. "Red FM is a friend to its listeners and connects to them through a various range of emotions. Mother's Day is one such occasion which the station will be celebrating through special affection and emotion, "said Asha Ambike, Manager Marketing, Red FM.

When we talk about special days, how can we forget greeting cards? Archies has introduced a special range of 56 Mother's Day cards. Besides, there is an array of gifts especially for the occasion. Pramod Arora, Executive Director, Archies, said, "Mother's Day is an opportunity to express your gratitude and love to the woman who has always stood by you, especially in your most difficult times. At Archies, we have various offerings to express your unconditional love towards the most cherished woman in your life, your mother."
