Triveni Media Ltd, the fully-owned subsidiary of real estate and infrastructure group Triveni Infrastructure Development Co Ltd, which had launched its Hindi news channel Voice of India in June 2008, is now foraying further into the regional news space with VOI Uttar Pradesh. The channel was launched last month and follows VOI Rajasthan and VOI MP/Chhattisgarh channels, which were launched in September 2008.
Triveni Media has also embarked on a soft launch of its channels VOI Punjab and high-end luxury lifestyle channel Millionaire, which will be formally launched next month. VOI Punjab will be catering to the Northern belt covering Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Rahul Kulshreshtha, CEO, Voice of India, said, “With their local flavour, VOI UP and VOI Punjab will be complete news and current affair news channels catering to the crown region. Millionaire, on the other hand, is a high-end luxury and lifestyle channel, which is targeting the youth, who have a taste for the good things in life and have the spending power and want to reach the next level.”
Meanwhile, Voice of India, too, has been affected by the current meltdown and has recently laid off of over 250 of its employees. From a team of 900-plus, the organisation is now working with a workforce of 650-plus to run its existing news channels – VOI National, VOI MP/Chattisgarh, VOI Rajasthan and VOI Uttar Pradesh.
Kulshreshtha added, “Despite the meltdown, we have been able to launch on the scheduled dates and would do the same in the future as well.”
All the channels are being headed by Associate Group Editor Rajesh Badal.
