Triveni Media, a subsidiary of the Rs 3,000-crore Triveni Group, has tied up with Kolkata-based production house Sukriti Productions Pvt. Ltd to cater to all production-related requirements of the company’s to-be-launched Bengali news channel.
Triveni Media has plans to launch a bouquet of 18 channels, of which 17 would be regional channels in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal.
“We have signed a deal with Sukriti Productions that would cater to all the production-related requirement of the Bengali news channel that we are soon to launch. Besides news, the channel would also have entertainment-related programmes,” said Rahul Kulshreshtha, CEO, Triveni Media.
Kulshrestha added that it was too early to speak about channel content and its launch date. “We have just finalised the deal and it would take sometime before we could decide on details,” he added.
Sukriti Productions began its operations with a news channel ‘Khobor Akon’ along with Television Today Network Pvt. Ltd (TVTN), eight years ago. The channel is not functional at the moment.
“We can claim to be the first Bengali news channel in Kolkata after Doordarshan, while it has been a production house since 12 years. When Triveni approached us, we did not hesitate to tie up with them, as we had known people there. We have plans to cater to the Bengali educated masses through this news channel,” said Abhijit Dasgupta, Executive Director, Sukriti Productions. Dasgupta is a retired Station Director of Doordarshan. He has over 30 years experience in television industry.
