Telugu news channel Zee 24 Gantalu to be launched on March 27

After much speculation, 24-hour Telugu news channel Zee 24 Gantalu is set to launch on March 27, 2009. The launch coincides with the festival of Ugadi, which happens to be the Telugu New Year day. Zee 24 Gantalu is the 34th channel in Zee’s bouquet and is aimed primarily at delivering quality news, in quality format, within the shortest possible time for Telugu viewers. Along with news, it also aims at delivering business, sports and infotainment capsules. Zee 24 Gantalu is the second channel for Telugu audience from Zee News Ltd, the first being Zee Telugu.

Commenting on the channel, Sanjay Reddy, CEO, Zee Telugu, said, “Zee 24 Gantalu is the first Telugu news channel from a national news broadcaster. Leveraging on the experience of Zee News, channel packaging and the professional content providers, 24 Gantalu team provides the viewer an experience, which will be on par with national news channels.”

The channel sports the tagline – ‘Nijam nippu lantidi’ (means ‘Truth is like Burning Charcoal’) – and hence truth to be handled with high care. Zee 24 Gantalu is touted as a serious news channel, designed to be taken seriously by all its stakeholders. The channel claims that at Zee 24 Gantalu news is free from distortion and will be handled sensitively in a journalistically matured way, without compromising the basic protocol of journalism. Content will be kept away from aspects that form sensation.

Shailesh Reddy is the Business Head for Zee 24 Gantalu. He was earlier heading the Hyderabad news bureau of Zee News. Having spent 14 years in journalism, Reddy began his career in 1995 with the Eenadu Group as a reporter, and subsequently worked in the New Delhi bureau of Eenadu Television for two years before joining the Zee Network. He brings in a wealth of experience in news. Reddy will be reporting to Sanjay Reddy, CEO, Zee Telugu.

Commenting on Shailesh Reddy, Sanjay Reddy said, “Shailesh has a unique understanding of our business priorities and a great capacity to build and lead multi-disciplinary teams in accomplishing our objectives, as also strategic acumen.” In line with the basic credo of Zee News, Zee 24 Gantalu will lay emphasis on objective and responsible approach to news reportage. Zee Telugu, the Telugu GEC from Zee stable, is already present in the market for sometime now and doing extremely well.
