Tamil news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai launches today

New Generation Media Corporation has announced the launch of Puthiya Thalaimurai, a 24-hour Tamil news channel with a global outlook. The channel goes on air from August 24, 2011. Grey Worldwide has been roped in as the creative agency, while OMD is handling the media duties. The channel will be exclusively marketed by Fourth Dimension Media Solutions.

New Generation Media has been publishing Puthiya Thalaimurai group of magazines.

Using high definition (HD) technology, Puthiya Thalaimurai aspires to offer the Tamil audience and the versatile Tamil Diaspora across the globe a unique experience of watching news in Tamil with a national fervour and a world-class technology, while keeping its Tamil identity intact.

Speaking of the philosophy of the channel, RP Sathyanarayanan, Managing Director, Puthiya Thalaimurai, said, “People should be able to enjoy their right to access full and proper information. Our channel will operate as an unbiased news channel, primarily for the budding young generation. Truth will be our motto.”

The channel operates from Chennai with its reporters spread across Tamil Nadu, and also in important centres like Delhi and Mumbai through bureaus and offices. National news would be sourced through syndication with ANI/ PTI and global news through syndication with Reuters.

The channel will be available across India on all platforms – viz. cable & satellite households.

Commenting on the marketing strategy, Shyam, Vice-President (Marketing), Puthiya Thalaimurai, said, “This will be one big launch of the recent past cutting across all mediums. There is a clear space for an unbiased news channel in Tamil Nadu and we would like to position our channel to international standards keeping up with our tag line ‘Unmai Udannukudan’ – Quick news without an iota of falsehood – that’s our news channel for you.”

The group released the Little Hearts online-only campaign, #BreakSomeHearts, early this year and is on the path to make many more of its brands available on the digital platform
