Tamil Nadu cable operators coordination committee opposes the Bill

The Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Coordination Commitee described the Bill for ending cable TV monopoly as "outdated, useless and shocking" in view of the "very fast technological development in cable TV networking". The Committee state president TV Ramesh said the Bill had shocked both small-sized and giant cable operators."It (the Bill) would have really benefitted the Cable TV operators had it been brought in 1993. Now it has no use."

Finding investment exorbitant due to technological developments and pay channel costs, small cable TV operators had joined together and set up a common telecast facility.

"The regulation including restricting the number of operators cannot be practically implemented or carried out voluntarily by the cable TV operators", he said.

The law would worsen the Cable TV industry, which was already reeling under the steep hike in the pay channel costs and investments and maintenance costs.
