Taj Television adopts Irdeto M-Crypt conditional access system

For its pay channel Ten Sports, Taj Television has signed a license agreement with Irdeto Access. Irdeto Access, a Dutch company, is a leading provider of encryption system to protect unauthorized access for both the Television and Internet content. M-Crypt, one of the solutions, tracks the access to authorized local cable operator ensuring transparency.

Says Chris McDonald, CEO, Taj Television, "Given our exciting content, we already have thousands of cable operators passing our channel to their vast subscriber base. A reliable content protection system is a necessity. For us Irdeto Access is the right partner."

Irdeto M-Crypt, dubbed as a ''compact'' conditional access system, provides broadcasters with significant encryption capabilities and enables a secure and direct delivery of signals only to authorized customers, Local cable operators in this case.

With more and more channels going pay and rampant under-reporting by local cable operators the need and market for such systems is on the rise. International players, like Irdeto and Canal + are currently in dialogue with broadcasters that are completing going pay. The current uncertainty about implementation of CAS bill is however reported to have slowed negotiations down.
