Sun TV has restructured its distribution business with the creation of two verticals – one focused on managing the South operations and the international business, and the second on expanding the Sun TV bouquet in the North, West and Eastern markets of India. The core focus of the new organisation is to distribute the Sun Television channels in India and internationally via all fixed networks, including cable, DTH, IPTV, HITS and MMDS.
“This is a very important initiative for us in the distribution platform business and is being created with the vision of better leveraging our very successful television brands across the country and internationally. The content assets and resources of Sun TV Network will enable us to continue to thrive in an ever changing media landscape. It also signals our deep commitment to drive greater growth from subscription revenues,’’ explained Kalanithi Maran, Chairman and Managing Director, Sun TV Network.
He further said that consumers of all Sun Network’s products – on screens large and small – would have the benefit of enhanced content and experiences, delivered to them in new and better ways as a result of this initiative.
Sun TV also announced the appointment of two senior distribution professionals who would be spearheading these business units – Mohammed Mujeebuddin and Jawed Akthar, respectively.
Mujeebuddin joins Sun Network to head the South India and International Operations of the newly-created vertical. He has Masters in Electronics Engineering and has over 15 years of experience in the cable and broadcasting industry. His last assignment was with Star Den Media Services Pvt Ltd as Executive Vice President, where he was heading the sales function nationally. He was the core part of Star Group for the last 15 years and has played key leadership roles in the development and growth of the distribution business of Star across the country.
Akthar will head the North, East and Western operations. A management graduate, Akthar has more than 20 years of experience in channel distribution, subscription and cable industry. He was associated with the Star Group for more than 13 years, where he was Executive Vice President - Distribution, managing Star’s all India cable distribution business. His last assignment was with WWIL/Zee Group as Executive Vice President.
Sun TV aims to incorporate the world’s best practices to create a platform of premium content, which adds value to the entire distribution chain, according to release. This new organisation combined professional management and compelling content to provide world class products and services to the Indian consumers, a company release said.
