Star Vijay has decided to change the name of its programme Sa Re Ga Ma on its Tamil channel, Star Vijay, following a legal notice alleging copyright violation by Subhash Chandra’s Zee Telefilms.
“The name of the programme has been changed,” said a Star India spokesperson.
Zee told Star Vijay in the legal notice that, “You shall not produce the programme with the same format or title or any other programme, which is deceptively similar to the said programme.”
Zee has also asked Star Vijay to remove all promotions and advertisements, aimed at promoting the programme.
Zee also has pointed out that certain key elements of the format of the programme may be a violation of intellectual property.
“We state that our popular musical programme Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has been successfully running for the last 10 years and has stood the test of time in terms of popularity and entertainment. The said programme is liked by all and sundry and is patronised by all lovers of music. The concept and idea of the said programme is an original work of Zee duly formatted and recorded by the in-house team of Zee,” the company has pointed out in its legal notice.
