Star Movies moves ahead

The verdict was out, and Star Movies came out as the top performing English movie channel earlier this year, according to TAM ratings.

This is especially true for the three blockbusters that Star Movies aired - Titanic, Jurassic Park and Lost World, which held the record for the top three movies ever to air in India. The top 10 performing English movies in April-June 2002 were also on STAR Movies, with the channel accounting for 31 out of the top 50 movies across the period. TAM ratings from April to June 2000 also show that the channel was watched by over 40 million people over the last three months.

Star Movies has been dominating the viewership for the weekend slot. In June, STAR Movies had an audience share of 1.49 over the competitors, much higher than its competitors (TAM, C&S AB 4+, 9 cities for Fri, Sat, Sun 1900-2400).

The following months would also witness some of the biggest Oscar winning movies including Shrek, the Oscar Winner for Best Animated Feature Film, Moulin Rouge, the Oscar Winner for Best Art Direction & Costume Design and A Beautiful Mind, the Oscar Winner for Best Picture & Best Direction. Other movies include Artificial Intelligence, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Sixth Sense, The World is not Enough, Chocolat, End of Days, What Women Want etc., all blockbusters, which would clearly give Star Movies an edge over competition.

Star Movies has a great menu planned for the future. Only if the competition plays its cards well, will they be able to keep pace. Wait and watch!
