Star Gold reports rapid increase in channel share

With the dubbed version of the Hollywood blockbuster Jurassic Park –The Lost World, Star Gold asserts that it has received channel share of 4.3 %, thus beating its mainstream rivals such as Zee TV (4.2), Sahara Manoranjan (2.1) and Sab TV (0.8) in week December 21-27, 2003. The Star Gold spokesperson asserts that Jurassic Park 2, which received a TVR of 3.2, was pitted against Devdas on Sony and that the increase in ratings did not imply an easy triumph for the channel. According to Star, the other movie that rated well in the same week was Wednesday Gold Sarfarosh (1.7 TVR), which was pitted against the satellite premiere of Baaz-The Bird in Danger on Set Max.

The Star spokesperson also asserts that the prime time slot has also fared extremely well in the same week, with a share of 4.8 as against Set Max at 4.26, Zee Cinema at 2.99 and B4U at 0.36. (Source: AC Nielsen TAM, C&S 4+, 20:00-22:59, week Dec 21-27, 2003, Hindi Speaking Markets).

The channel reports that it expects to see a similar high with the telecast of Shaolin Soccer (which was a big hit in Hong Kong) and the premiere of the critically acclaimed Teen Deewarein on Wednesday Gold.
