Star block signals to INCablenet, SitiCable

Star India has blacked out the signals of its bouquet of channels to INCablenet and SitiCable networks for non-payment of dues.

The Star channels are not available since last week on the INCablenet network in Ahmedabad and Nagpur for outstandings worth Rs 80 lakh and Rs 32 lakh respectively. SitiCable has an outstanding of Rs 95 lakh in Bangalore also.

According to INCablenet chief operating officer Rajiv Vyas, Star had asked it to increase the number of subscribers from 11,850 to above 16,000. This was not agreeable to INCablenet as it do not have a paid connectivity of that many subscribers.

Star says that the signals were blacked out not on grounds of increase in connectivity but for non-payment of dues.

Sony Entertainment Television’s bouquet was also off the SitiCable network in Bangalore earlier but last week matters were settled.

Star wants an increase in the declaration of subscribers from INCablenet in Mumbai also and had threatened to switch off signals. The two companies are currently in discussion.

However, Star is reluctant to switch off its channels on INCablenet in Mumbai, as it is the leading multi-system operator in the city.
