Star and Zee all set to launch new shows in January 2009

Star Plus and Zee TV are heralding the New Year with some new shows. While Star is launching a comedy show ‘Arre Deewano Mujhe Pehchano’, and Zee will be beefing up its line-up with a regular soap ‘Maa’, a thriller ‘Monica Mogre’ and a reality show ‘Dance India Dance’.

‘Arre Deewano Mujhe Pehchano’ will go on air from January 2, 2009. Star Plus claims that the show would be free from clichés of emotional outbursts at eliminations and unnecessary melodrama, and engage with a rich dose of laughter and fun. The show has been produced by Contiloe and would be aired on Fridays and Saturdays at 10 pm.

With the launch of ‘Arre Deewano Mujhe Pehchano’, Star Plus is attempting to break away from the stereotype of a typical reality show and provide its viewers entertainment to unwind on weekends. Talking about this format, Anupama Mandloi, Senior Creative Director, STAR India, said, “Disguises always create talking points, generate curiosity and bring an element of humour and fun. We decided to put together some of the best names in the field of entertainment, and design a show in which the viewer will get to see a myriad disguises donned by these celebrities, who are out to con unsuspecting people. This is peppered with stand-ups and our very own Gadhashri, a very expressive animation character will ensure that the Star Plus’ viewers are in for enjoyable weekend viewing.”

The show would be anchored by Kavita Kaushik and the platform will bring together eight celebrities – Gulshan Grover, Mahesh Manjrekar, Divya Dutta, Rakhi Sawant, Mandira Bedi, Mona Singh, Yash Tonk and Shweta Keswani.

The animated character Ghadhashri (a donkey) will carefully scrutinise each gag and give his expert comments. Each week, well-known names from the entertainment industry will give Ghadhashri company and watch the antics of the disguised celebrity contestants.

These eight celebrities will hoodwink common people, family and friends through the use of disguise at pre-decided locations. The disguise is not just in terms of costumes and make-up, but also the overall acting ability, mannerisms and their accents.

There will be no eliminations in this show and every week, one celebrity will win the title of ‘Master of Disguise’, which will be decided by the voting done among all the eight contestants. There will also be no judges.

Further details are awaited on the three new shows on Zee TV.
