Space TV to launch DTH service next year

Star TV under the umbrella of Space TV may launch its DTH services in the next calendar year. Planning to price the service competitively to the cable rates, the broadcaster is looking at garnering at least 1,00,000 subscribers in the first year of its launch.

The broadcaster is banking these plans on the premise that two of the critical stumbling blocks – the interoperability of settop boxes and the investment cap—will be looked at more sympathetically by the Information and Broadcasting ministry.

The broadcaster is in the process of firming up a location for the earth station in north India.
