Sony takes 10 pm action forward, to launch supernatural drama ‘Akela’ from July 4

Continuing with its new programming strategy that Sony Entertainment Television had embarked on, the channel is all set to launch its new 10 pm offering ‘Akela’. The 10 pm slot has been designed to house weeklies, and the first show to come in was ‘Vaidehi’. ‘Akela’ will go on air from July 4, 2006.

Elaborating on the new programme, N P Singh, COO, SET India, said, “We have always taken pride in giving our viewers very distinctive and innovative programming that makes for wholesome family entertainment. With ‘Akela’ we are dealing with the supernatural along with drama, an entire new genre that will throw new insights on the topic that has never been dealt with on television. The show comes from Fireworks and. B P Singh, who have given very successful thrillers like ‘CID’ and ‘Aahat’, and it only reiterates our faith and confidence in the project. With ‘Akela’ we plan to take suspense dramas and thrillers to a different level.”

B P Singh, the producer-director of the show, said, “‘Akela’ will be a soap with a difference. We are trying to break new grounds with a combination of soap and supernatural element. We have done very popular thrillers in the past, but with ‘Akela’ we are attempting to move into other areas.”

The show has been produced by Fireworks and B P Singh and Uproor; directed by Glen Barretto and Ankush Mohla; and stars Sudhanshu Pandey, Sumeet Raghavan, Ashka Goradia, Pankaj Dheer, Mihir Misra, Mahii Vij, Nandita Puri, Navni Parihar, and Viju Khote, among others.
