Sony sees HBO and AXN channels as big opportunity

Sony considers the addition of HBO to its kitty as a major value addition. Says Rohit Gupta, Executive Vice President, Sales and Revenue Management for the network, "We see a big opportunity for the niche channels in the days to come. It is extremely exciting to work on them. Both HBO and AXN have huge titles lined up for the year 2003. AXN is already doing extremely well and we are all set to double our revenues from the channel this year."

As the content on the two English channels is being enhanced, a separate sales force is being built to support these channels. Says Gupta, "Till now we had independent teams selling SET and MAX, now we have created a separate team to sell the English channels. This team will be headed by Nachiket Pant Vaidya, who has been redesignated as VP Sales and Marketing English Channels. Pant Vaidya would, in turn, be reporting to Gupta, who has recently been given the responsibility as Channel and Business Head for both the English channels.

However, Nachiket Pantvaidya's move from programming to marketing, would not lead to any fresh appointments as far as SET-programming team is concerned. According to sources, Sunil Lulla, Executive Vice President, Programming and Business Development would continue to take care of it with the existing team.

As reported earlier, HBO moves to Alliance One distribution network effective 2003.
