Sony Entertainment Television is launching its latest programming initiative, ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Dancing with the Stars’, on September 7, 2006. The show is scheduled to air every Wednesday and Thursday in the 10 pm slot. Jhalak… is a reality-based dance format show that brings together celebrities from different walks of life such as sports, films, fashion and music who will perform with professional dance partners on a highly competitive stage.
The contestants will perform before a live studio audience and of course the entire viewing public. They are going to dance with the same amount of passion and professionalism that made them the achievers they are. The show is being produced by Synergy Communications and Theatre Red for SET in India.
The panel of three judges comprises Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Farha Khan and Shilpa Shetty. Jhalak… will be hosted by Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi who will be instrumental in motivating and encouraging the team week after week.
Said N. P. Singh, COO, SET India, “Yet again Sony Entertainment Television brings to its viewers an original international dance format show. ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Dancing with the Stars’ is all about super achievers in their respective fields who are here to yet again excel in something new. We are confident that Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Dancing with the Stars will enthrall audiences not only with the power-packed performances but also keep viewers glued to their television sets watching their favourite stars put their best foot forward to match their professional partners.”
Said Siddhartha Basu of Synergy, “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Dancing with the Stars is a grand and glamorous show, which is as much about live-wire personalities and the fun of fusion dance as it is about the grit behind the glamour. It’s not just about the usual suspects going through all-too-familiar routines, but about the performance and pain of public figures who are not trained dancers, and the fantastic journey they undertake to put their best foot forward. That’s what makes it the mother of all such shows, and that’s what’s making it work in countries across the world.”
Monisha Shah, Director of Emerging Territories, BBC Worldwide, said, “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Dancing with the Stars is as good as it gets. It is one of BBC’s most successful entertainment programmes. It has swept global audiences off their feet and has become a ratings blockbuster in every continent. With its wonderful combination of glamour, talent and passion, we are especially excited that Sony Entertainment Television has taken BBC Worldwide’s format and tailored it so well for the Indian audience. The judges, the hosts, the celebrities and their partners are all in place.”
Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Dancing with the Stars will invite viewers to vote for their favourite contestant ‘jodi’. The voting pattern will follow a 50:50 ratio for judges and audience. One celebrity pair with the lowest scores will be eliminated each week. Voting lines will be open for five days starting from the day of the performance.
