Sandeep Bamzai joins Focus News as Editor

Veteran journalist Sandeep Bamzai has joined Focus News as Editor, confirm industry sources. Bamzai will look after the editorial operations of Focus News.

After a stint of more than three years, Sandeep Bamzai stepped down as Editor at Mail Today newspaper last month.

Focus TV Group broadcasts five television channels - Focus News (Hindi), Focus Haryana and regional channels that broadcast in Oriya, Bangla, Assamese and an entertainment channel in the North East.

Announcing his resignation last month Bamzai had tweeted: " I am thankful for all the support from my colleagues, peers and friends and it convinces me that I did the right thing by quitting." And also tweeted: "I wud like to place on record that I made a stupid mistake n I am embarrassed about it. My sense of propriety convinced me to quit n I did."

Media buzz suggested that Bamzai called it quits due to alleged involvement in the communication leaks from the Essar Group.

Bamzai has mostly worked as a business journalist and has worked in senior editorial positions in some of the biggest publishing houses in three different cities such as  Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.

He was Business Editor with Hindustan Times, and before moving to New Delhi from Mumbai, he was Senior Editor with Business India, Editor of Dalal Street Journal, Assistant Editor of The Illustrated Weekly, Deputy Editor of Sunday Observer and Editor - Special Projects at The Times of India Group. He has also worked as Executive Editor with Plus Channel.

Bamzai had started his career with The Statesman, Kolkata. In 1986, he moved to Mumbai to join The Indian Express and has spent more than 15 years in Mumbai.
