Sahara India Mass Communication Ltd has changed its name to Sahara One Media & Entertainment Ltd to highlight the entertainment business of the company. The company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange about the change in name on Tuesday.
The move is a step towards integrating the television business of the Sahara group with its entertainment business, especially Sahara One, the entertainment television channel.
However, the company intends to keep its news channel business out of the consolidation process. The group is also planning to go ahead with the launch of its movie channel, Sahara Filmy, which has not seen the light of day after the company failed to launch it on October 25.
Sahara India Mass Communication Ltd is a profitable business of the group with 90 per cent stake with the promoters. It recorded a profit of Rs 1.86 crore in the July-September quarter of 2005.
