Sahara beefs up channel offering with Urdu news channel ‘Aalami Sahara’

Sahara News Network launched its Urdu news channel Aalami Sahara in the Capital on December 27, 2010. The channel would voice the regional, national and international issues with fairness and precision and broadcast them in 54 different countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Upendra Rai, News Director, Sahara News Network, said, “Aalami Sahara will make a difference in the news media industry. In India, where more than 9 crore people speak and understand Urdu, out of which 4 crore happen to be television viewers, Aalami Sahara will prove to be a pioneer in presenting cutting-edge news to keep these viewers abreast of the happenings in their own language.”

The countries where Aalami Sahara will be available include India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Brunei, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, Turkey, Bhutan, Nepal, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Macau, Maldives, Fiji, Myanmar, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Australia and others.

For the record, Sahara News Network already publishes Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (an Urdu daily), Aalami Sahara (a weekly magazine) and Bazm-e-Sahara (a monthly tabloid). Urdu daily, Roznama, publishes 16 editions from 10 centers for its claimed 31.5 lakh readers. There are 5.25 lakh (claimed) readers of the Urdu weekly, while there are 5 lakh readers for Bazm-e-Sahara.

In the broadcast genre, Sahara News Network has free-to-air national Hindi news channel Samay and a bouquet of 36 city-specific regional news channels under the brand name Sahara Samay. Sahara’s News Media is equipped with over 1,600 V-Sats for news collection and has 50 bureaus and 1,000 correspondents across the globe.
