MATV was launched in 1999 as a terrestrial broadcaster. MATV has started its broadcast through cable networks also from April 2000. It is a Leicestershire-based free to air Asian terrestrial channel. The channel MATV has also achieved cash break-even. Currently, MATV reaches about 50,000 homes accounting for 2,00,000 viewers.

The joint venture plans to expand its reach through cable network in nearby counties — Nottingham, Derby, Coventry, Manchester, Bradford — and London city during the current year.

The expanded reach will provide for connectivity to around 2,50,000-3,00,000 households with around a million to 1.25 viewers.

According to sources, MATV broadcasts about 63 hours of news content a week in Hindi and Gujarati language. About 18 hours of these were produced in-house.

SABe TV will leverage its content library by exports to MATV. The channel will also provide technical assistance for upgradation of local facilities and improve the quality of local production.

SABe TV, which was into losses, is expected to break even in the last quarter of the fiscal. The channel is expected to get into cash break-even mode next fiscal.
