SAB TV to pay tribute to comedy in Indian cinema

SAB TV has launched new show ‘Safar filmy comedy ka’, a Sunday non-fiction property. It will pay tribute to comedy through 100 years of cinema, keeping in mind the channel’s philosophy.

It goes on air from January 27, 2013 and is slotted for the 9PM slot.

Commenting on the rationale behind the telecast of the show at 9 PM, Anooj Kapoor, EVP and Business Head, SAB TV stated, “We feel that some of the best non-fiction properties have observed success in this particular slot. We telecast feature films in this slot and it has worked since we have a loyal audience base. SAB TV attracts audiences that have an immense appetite for comedy.”

Through this show, the channel intends to convey that there have been some great comedians that one may or maynot be aware of but have contributed significantly to comedy in movies, shared Kapoor.

Marketing push
The channel would undertake various promotional activities on different media platforms to create buzz about the new launch. Apart from the promos on the television, the channel would be focussing on the social and the digital for greater audience connect. Also, apart from the conventional media, the channel is planning activities such as marketing the show via cartoon strips across 18 newspapers to create awareness.

As a part of the marketing campaign, the channel might also look at tie-ups with films to be released, particularly pertaining to the comedy genre.

Each episode of ‘Safar filmy comedy ka’ will showcase one trend of comedy, including physical, action, slapstick, cult comedy, mistaken identity, etc. Each episode will pay tribute to popular comedians of Bollywood from different eras; it will feature veteran actors such as Juhi Chawla, Prem Chopra, Divya Dutta, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, Asrani, who will share their cinematic experience in comedy with the audience.
