With General elections round the corner, SAB TV has stepped on the pedal to launch its news and current affairs channel. The channel has roped in Editor of the Delhi edition of Dainik Bhaskar, Harish Gupta, as Director, News and Current Affairs.
Confirming his appointment, Gupta told exchange4media.com that he would be joining the group soon. Gupta’s association with SAB TV started with the ongoing current affairs show ‘Jan Sansad’. He is also engaged with Doordarshan’s news channel, DD News as an anchor.
SAB TV Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Markand Adhikari said Gupta would join the channel by mid-March. SAB TV has already appointed an ex-DD staffer Madhavi Mutatkar as President of the news channel. Adhikari said, “While Gupta will oversee the day-to-day editorial operations of the news channel, Mutatkar will be responsible for the administrative matters. Our present ad sales team headed by Kanta Advani will oversee the operations for the news channel as well.”
He said that the channel will be launched in 3-4 months. “Our USP will be the faces on the channel which would be the cream of media. We will also create special women, youth and senior citizens bands for our news channels which will be in the daily magazine format.”
The channel would be headquartered in Delhi. “We are setting up a studio in South Delhi and another one at our existing corporate towers in Mumbai on Andheri Road Link. We will soon start the recruitments,” he said.
SAB TV will also start special poll programming in the run-up to the elections in its existing current affairs band with news headlines and expert analysis of day’s key events.
