SAB launches reality-based format show ‘Acting ki Funshaala’

Close on the heels of launching its comedy show ‘Bhaago KK Aaya’, SAB has launched another show ‘Acting ki Funshaala’, which is a reality-based format show with the component flavour of comedy to it. The show will be aired on Fridays at 8:00 pm from February 1, 2008. Vodafone comes on board as the presenting sponsor.

The show is a comic reality show that includes 10 aspirants from seven small towns of India. These characters – six boys and four girls – are regular, everyday people who aspire to make it big in Bollywood. The winning pair of actor and actress will get the opportunity to star in a movie that would be telecast on SAB.

Announcing the new show, Anooj Kapoor, Business Head, SAB, said, “This is not just another reality show to hit the TV screens. The show will be a breath of fresh air from the overdose of reality shows with repetitive formats running on television currently. It is sure to tickle your funny bone as the contestants are ordinary people without any acting experience. We intend to showcase the hidden talents of these people who otherwise would never have got this opportunity. The show adds to an impressive line-up of innovative shows which refreshes our programming.”

The show will go on for 13 weeks and is produced by Miditech Pvt Ltd. The channel will have its marketing concentrated on BTL activities in small towns of India creating awareness for the show. The show has scanned 36 small towns of India that includes the territories of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and many more. The channel will also route its marketing towards outdoor as well but will see more of on-ground activities with mobile –vans and contest.

The show has been conceptualised in the format of an acting school and will train the aspirants through a series of hilarious tasks that are meant to be serious. TV veteran Annu Kapoor will be the Principal of ‘Acting ki Funshala’. Model Aparna kumar will be the strict warden, while Sanjeev Kumar plays the friendly teacher. A peon played by Pradeep Raghunath completes the Funshala.


Kranti Gada joined the family business at Shemaroo in 2006 after a successful stint of over two years in marketing at Pepsi Co. She has been associated with the company for 12 years.
