The much-delayed Delhi and NCR centric Hindi news channel, S1, is finally set for launch next month following uplinking clearance from the I&B Ministry. The 24-hour free-to-air channel is promoted by Delhi-based real estate company, Senior Builders.
Vijay Dixit, chairman of Senior Group, told exchange4media that the channel will be uplinked from its own teleport in South Delhi which has already been made operational. Three state-of-the-art studios and a newsroom have been set up on Siri Fort Road in South Delhi, he said.
S1, which was conceived as the first Delhi and NCR news channel, has been hanging fire for the last several months following the exit of its former channel head Santosh Bhartiya. In the meantime, another Delhi and NCR centric channel, Total TV, was launched from Delhi last month.
Meanwhile, ahead of its proposed launch in May, S1 has stepped up its recruitment drive. Mukesh Kumar, who was formerly heading Sahara Samay's Madhya Pradesh channel, has been appointed as deputy channel head. The search is still on for a channel head. Another veteran Hindi journalist, Alok Tomar, has been made Political Editor. Jay Sebestian, formerly of Jain TV, had joined as Programming Head last year. G. Vashisth, who was with Sahara, has been taken on as Input Editor while Avinish, formerly of Zee TV, is the Output Editor.
The channel has appointed Mukul Vajpayee as Deputy Marketing Head while Rakesh Lamba, formerly of Siticable, is the Head of Distribution.
In a related development, Senior Group, according to Dixit, is in an advanced stage of negotiations to buy a Hindi entertainment channel.
