Result Day of Assembly Elections 2016 held in 5 states takes the viewership of English News  up by 5 times

In week 20 (14-20 May,2016) of BARC Ratings, the telecast of Result Day of Assembly Elections 2016 held in five states took the viewership rate of the news channels up. English, Hindi, Malyalam, Tamil, Bangla and the North East News channels saw an exponential hike in the ratings in this week.

As far as the entertainment channels are concerned, Star Gold and Disney Channel also witnessed a spike in the viewership by airing ‘Sanam Re’ and ‘The Jungle Book’ respectively.

Detailed Report Below:

The Result day of Assembly Elections 2016 took the viewership of the Malayalam News  channels up by nearly 8 times on Thursday. Malyalam News ,in total, garnered 71,045 impressions ‘000s in week 20 as compared to 9,056 impressions ‘000s in week 19. Asianet News also saw a hike from 2,450 impressions ‘000s in week  19 to 26,500 impressions ‘000s in week 20. Manorama News also gained from 1,931 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 15,509 impressions ‘000s in week 20.

The Bangla News genre went up by nearly 5.2 times i.e, from 10,223 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 53,708 impressions ‘000s in week 20 on Result Day of Assembly Elections 2016. The ratings of ABP Ananda rose from 3,733 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 23,788 impressions ‘000s in week 20. 24 Ghanta experienced a hike in the ratings from 2,177 impressions ‘000s in week  19 to 10,899 impressions ‘000s in week 20. ETV News Bangla gained from 770 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 9,265 impressions ‘000s in week 20. Also, Kolkata TV saw a hike in the ratings from 1,693 impressions ‘000s in the previous week to 4,105 impressions ‘000s in week 20.

The viewership ratings of the English Channels rose by 5 times on the Result Day of Assembly Elections 2016 on Thursday. The ratings of English News ,as a whole, rose from 94 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 457 impressions ‘000s in week 20. The impressions of Times Now saw a hike from 37 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 256 impressions ‘000s in week 20. CNN News 18 gained from 5 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 57 impressions ‘000s in week 20. Also, India Today saw a rise from 15 impresssions ‘000s in week 19 to 62 impressions ‘000s in week 20. NDTV 24*7 experienced hike from 17 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 42 impressions ‘000s in week 20.

The ratings of Assam / North East / Sikkim News  on the Result Day of Assembly Election 2016 on Thursday took the viewership up by 4.3 times. The News genre rose to 15332 impressions ‘000s in week 20 from 4263 impressions ‘000s in week 19. News Live grew from 1,531 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 7,540 impressions ‘000s in week 20. The viewership ratings of DY 365 rose to 3,774 impressions ‘000s in week 20 from 713 impressions ‘000s in week 19. Also, Pratidin Time saw a hike from 911 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 2,310 in week 20. Assam Talks rose from 501 impressions 000’s to 2,310 impressions ‘000s.

The Tamil News genre rose by nearly 3.2 times on the Result Day of Assembly Elections 2016. The genre fetched 59,519 impressions ‘000s in week 20 as compared to 25,393 impressions’ in week 19. Out of which, Puthiya Thalaimurai garnered 20, 301 impressions ‘000s in week 20 which were 5,316 in week 19. Polimer News gained 19,315 impressions ‘000s in week 20 from 3,357 impressions ‘000s in week 19. Thanthi TV got 17,205 impressions ‘000s in week 20 which were 5,525 impressions ‘000s in the previous week. Also, Jaya News got 11,544 impressions ‘000s in week 20 as compared to 4,535 impressions ‘000s the week before. Sun News garnered 6,397 impressions ‘000s in week 20 from 3,506 impressions ‘000s in week 19.

The viewership of  Hindi News genre rose by 36% on the Result Day of Assembly Elections 2016 on Thursday. The genre grew from 44,567 impressions ‘000s in week 19 to 61,205 impressions ‘000s in week 20. Aaj Tak fetched 11,625 impressions ‘000s in week 20 from 5,603 impressions ‘000s in week 19. ABP News garnered 9,401 impressions ‘000s in week 20 which were 5, 100 impressions ‘000s in week 19. India TV gained 9,241 impressions in week 20 from 7,522 impressions ‘000s in week 19. News Nation fetched 6,673 impressions’ 000s in week 20 from 4,312 impressions ‘000s in week 19. India News got 5,599 impressions ‘000s in week 20 which were 4,500 impressions ‘000s in week 19. Zee News garnered 4,537 impressions ‘000s in week 20 from 2,504 impressions ‘000s the week before. IBN7 which had 2,707 impressions ‘000s in week 19 got 3,734 impressions ‘000s in week 20.

The telecast of the movie ‘The Jungle Book’ on  Disney Channel on Saturday  took the 11:00 - 12:43 slot up by 2.5 times. The slot gained 306 impressions ‘000s in week 20 which were 122 impressions ‘000s in week 19.

The World Television Premiere of the movie ‘Sanam Re’ on Star Gold on Sundaytook the 13:00 – 15:23 slot up by 2 times. The slot  had an average of 4,375 impressions ‘000s (prev.13 weeks) which rose to 8,643 impressions ‘000s in week 20.

And, as far as the ratings of the Hindi GECs in the urban HSM are concerned, Star Plus, as a result of the increase in prime time on weekdays, acquired the no. 1 position. Colors slipped down to no. 2 whereas, Zee TV remained at no. 3.

In the rural markets, Sony Pal replaced Zee Anmol to acquire the no 1 position. Star Utsav stepped up to the second spot.  And, Zee Anmol saw a dip in the ratings and slipped to No.3 on account of a dip in PHCHP, UP and Bihar.
