Reliance Jio has received its provisional MSO license from the Ministry of Information & Broadcast (MIB). Now it is all set to sign up broadcasters for its MSO services. The provisional MSO license was received in the name of Reliance Jio Media Pvt. Ltd. yesterday evening said a spokesperson from Reliance.
Reliance Jio Media under Mukesh Ambani’s RIL Group had applied for an MSO license to the MIB in January. The spokesperson however said that the application had been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for security clearance and they are awaiting the final approval on the same.
The company which is a subsidiary of Reliance Jio Infocomm is also said to have planned a fibre-to-home arrangement that will offer TV channels to consumer homes. The company has also hired two of senior most managers from leading MSO players. K Jayaraman is the CEO of the Reliance Jio MSO business and was formerly known for his work in Hathway Cable & Datacom which made it one of the largest MSO in the country. The other S.N. Sharma who was the former CEO of DEN Networks, the second largest MSO, and now serves as a top leadership in the company.
