Regional broadcasters to meet MIB under ARTBI

Under the aegis of newly formed Association of Regional Television Broadcasters of India (ARTBI), a panel of regional broadcasters are going to meet the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officials next week. The body, which is formed to safeguard several interests of regional broadcasters and engage the government in a dialogue to amend few rules and regulations, had their first general meeting on 04 March, 2011 in Delhi.

ARTBI, in its next meeting, which is scheduled to be held next week, will elect its office bearers. Also, the constitution of rules and guideline will take place on the same day. Rajiv Mishra, Convenor, ARTBI and COO, India News, stated, “Viewers spend a good amount of time watching regional channels in India and a big chunk of viewership comes from there. Yet, there are several problems that regional broadcasters face. This body is going to address all of them.”

Mishra further noted, “ARTBI is not against any industry body in the country. Instead, we are seeking the support of all industry players.”

The first meeting was attended by all major regional broadcasters which include ETV, Sahara TV, India News TV, Tara TV, Maurya TV, HMTV, TV5, Rachana Television, Saam Marathi, Munsif TV, NETV, Amrita TV, Rupasi Bangla, Subharti TV amongst others.

The internal meeting discussed several matters of common interest and the problem faced by the regional Broadcasters of India. The meeting also discussed developing a consortium of regional broadcasters for getting national and corporate advertisements. The process of registration for the body is already on and is expected to be finalised by end of the March, 2011.
