Reality TV works, says Gregory Ho of AXN

AXN has decided to give its popular reality show "Who Dares Wins" Indian flavour for six episodes. The show that is co-hosted by Ex-Australian cricketer Mike Whitney will be shot in five Indian cities Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai. The show to be aired in India and Asia Pacific would be called "Who Dares Wins - India Special."

Addressing a press conference, Said Gregory Ho, Vice-President, Marketing, AXN Asia, "Reality TV works - it has always been present in form of documentaries and X-rated movies. We are somewhere in between. If a comedy serial fails or a family soap fails, no one says that this genre doesn't work. Then why question reality programmes? It, to a large extent, depends on the way it is handled."

He also focused on the point that India is an important market for AXN - not only in terms of the size of the country but also in terms of ad revenue and channel brand perspective. Hence it is the first destination in Asia where the programme is being shot. Said Ho, "Local programming is expensive, still we have gone for it as India is a crucial market for us."

When asked if language won't be a barrier, as the host Mike Whitney would not know the local language, replied Betti Tsui, VP, Programming & Acquisition, AXN - Asia, "I don't see language being a barrier here. Basically most of the Indians speak English. Besides, we are working with very professional production houses, and if there is any problem, they will solve it. Anyway programme is more about action and less about language."

Mike Whitney was also present at the press conference.

Who Dares Win - India Special, is presented by Hero Honda. Cosponsors for the programme are Samsung, Center Shock (Perfetti), Palmolive for men (Colgate Palmolive) and Airtel.
