Raj TV ups the ante with an array of new shows

With the advent of new channels and the foray of new players in ground distribution, almost every other channel in Tamil Nadu is upping the ante. Upbeat on its listing on the stock exchange, Raj TV is set to take a quantum leap with an array of new shows from October. The channel’s public issue in February this year was over-subscribed by three times, and over Rs 100 crore was collected from the equity market. This fresh inflow of funds enabled Raj TV Network Ltd (RTNL) to fortify its channel bouquet, which consists of Raj TV, Raj Digital Plus and Vissa TV.

Raj TV has lined up wholesome entertainment for its viewers and an ideal opportunity for the advertisers. On October 15, the channel will launch a mega serial ‘Orithi’ starring popular actress Nagma. The channel will also air the format show ‘Aashirvad Abhinaya’, which is a dance contest featuring mother-daughter duos. Twelve pairs of mothers and daughters will participate in this event, which is based on on-ground and on-air Bharatnatyam contest. The show will be aired every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm from October 6.

The channel is also strengthening its weekend slot with some infotainment shows. From October, every Sunday from 8 am-9 am, the channel will showcase popular orator Dindigul Leoni’s ‘Pechu Pechatan Irukkanam’, a debate-based show which will be interspersed with Leoni’s wit and humour. Raj TV would also pay tribute to the legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan by showcasing blockbuster movies of the maestro on the occasion of his birthday.

This apart, every Friday in the 9 pm-10 pm slot, Raj TV will air the spiritual serial ‘Samayathil Kaarpal Samayapuratthal’. October onwards, the commercially successful game show ‘Kassu Mazhai’ will be aired only once a week, on Saturday at 9.30 pm.

“This festival bonanza from Raj TV in October will definitely help the channel garner good channel share in the Tamil Nadu market,” said Subramanian Iyer, National Head-Sales and Marketing, RTNL.

Raj TV began its uplinking from India from August this year, and the immediate effect was the telecast of live news. Today, Raj TV has six live new bulletins, which deliver handsome audience share. Raj TV, the flagship channel of RTNL, has been on a revamp mode since April this year. This began with four brand new serials on prime time for the weekdays -- ‘Gaurawam’, ‘Meenakshi’, ‘Aaru Manme Aaru’ and ‘Mahanadhi’.
