Raj TV’s event express heads for Malaysia; conceives ‘Tamil cinema 75’ Awards night

Raj TV’s event express will reach Malaysia on June 10 with a musical concert at the end of its 10-city musical series in Tamil Nadu. Also coming up is a mega event titled ‘Tamil Cinema 75’, a star-studded award function, scheduled for June 18 at Chennai.

As the event agenda is furthered across 10 cities in Tamil Nadu, the channel is also experimenting and innovating with the format of these events. Besides the staple music and dance, the event in Malaysia is expected to be a crowd puller, with the likes of Vivek, Namitha, Pooja and Abbas taking to the stage.

B Shankar, VP – Marketing and Sales, Raj TV, said, “Raj TV, as the people’s channel, is considered the best as far as ground events go in the language. We are constantly trying to make the events fresh and appealing to audiences. A lot of new things will come in – for example, a fashion show and a FIFA special by ESPN for 20 minutes, which will promote the World Cup in some of the cities. The response to the musical event series so far has been fabulous.”

The ‘Tamil Cinema 75’ event will honour 75 veteran contributors to Tamil cinema, bringing them together on one common platform. The channel has also created a daily slot to showcase 75 best films to coincide with the 75 years of Tamil cinema.

Praveen Alexander, Head - Events & Promotions, Raj TV, elaborated that this was the third time an event series across 10 cities had been put together by the channel.

“We have done a multi-city road show before, and this year the difference is that the performers are younger and more in tune with the youth audience. The event will, therefore, interest the entire population, right from kids. The performers also keep changing in each city, so the content is unique and the event gives us variety when the show is aired too.”

Besides the Tamil Cinema Award night, the channel would also organise a ‘big bash’ for stars and celebrities, Raj TV representatives said. This event is being envisioned as an occasion to celebrate the warm relationship between the small screen and the big screen.

Each of the 10 city musical events is expected to attract nearly 6,000 people, and the summer season seems to be helping in that. The timing has also helped brand the property ‘Fanta Kodai Kondattam’. Raj TV will telecast each event on alternate Sundays, beginning May 28, 2006.
