Raids conducted on Incable for piracy of STAR’s channels

Enforcement agencies recently conducted a copyright raid on Indusind Media and Communications Pvt Ltd (Incable) network in Surat, based on a complaint filed by STAR India officials.

The action was initiated as Incable was found transmitting signals beyond its authorised area of operation. In reaction to the copyright raid, STAR channels were switched off and have remained unavailable to many cable homes serviced by Incable in Mumbai, Nasik, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Solapur, Sangli, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Bangalore since March 22, 2011.

Nearly one million cable homes serviced by Incable have been facing erratic supply of STAR channels as a result of the unlawful activities of by the MSO.

Reacting to the development, Sanjay Gupta, Chief Operating officer, STAR India Pvt Ltd, said, “Protection of intellectual property is at the core of the television business and is key to the growth of both broadcasters and distribution platforms. On that issue we will not negotiate or compromise.”

STAR has assured that it shall ensure strict action against all those involved in channel piracy and shall shortly bring back India’s favourite channels into their livings rooms.
