A year after its launch, the 24-hour free-to-air news channel of Doordarshan, DD News is set for a revamp. The official news cannel in its new avatar had performed well occupying the third place in channel share following NDTV India and Aaj Tak, with an ad revenue of Rs 15 crore – more than double its target.
Buoyed by the performance of DD News, Prasar Bharati is now engaged in the exercise of inducting more news professionals. KS Sarma, CEO, Prasar Bharati told exchange4media that DD News, headed by Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Amitabh Chakarborty was on the look out for a replacement of its former consulting editor Deepak Chaurasia who left Doordarshan few months back to join Aaj Tak. “In addition, we will also have input and output editors, besides inducting programme specialists and few more professionals of IIS cadre. We may even hire an external agency to improve the packaging of DD News,” he said.
Meanwhile, as Sarma informed, Prasar Bharati’s move to strengthen regional news unit by way of inducting more satellite phones and DSNG units and by changing the newscasters on contract basis has suffered a setback due to fund crunch.
