Prasar Bharati Board meets today, bidding for Commonwealth and Asian Games high on agenda

Prasar Bharati Board is meeting today (February 3) to discuss the crucial issue of bidding for the telecast rights of the forthcoming Commonwealth and Asian Games. The Board will also deliberate on the formation of a separate Recruitment Board for the Prasar Bharati as provided in the Prasar Bharati Act. The issue of Prasar Bharati’s Annaul Report to be tabled in the parliament for the first time will also form part of the agenda.

The revamp of DD News Channel and status report on Doordarshan’s newly launched DTH Service is also high on the agenda of the Board meeting. Prasar Bharati Board will ratify the recent appointment including that of Pankaj Shankar as input editor in DD News. The Board is also likely to discuss and decide about some other key appointments including that of noted media personality Pranjoy Guha Thakurta and Qurban Ali, an ex-BBC staffer.

The Board will also review the status report of DD direct, the recently launched DTH service of Doordarshan. Ever since its launch in November last, Doordarshan’s has reportedly sold 7.42 lakh set top boxes with maximum sale in Rajasthan followed by Maharashtra, Kerala and Gujarat.
