Polimer Media to enter satellite television space with Tamil GEC

The already crowded Tamil general entertainment television space will have one more channel shortly. Polimer Media, one of the largest multi-system operators (MSO) in Tamil Nadu, is all set to make an entry with a Tamil GEC channel.

According to P.V. Kalyanasundaram, Chairman & Managing Director, Polimer Media, a soft launch has been planned in the beginning of December 2008. The commercial launch will follow by December end.

Polimer Media has appointed R. Kalairajan as Chief Operating Officer.

Prior to joining Polimer Media, Kalairajan was Chief Technical Officer with the Raj Television Network. He moved to Polimer Media after spending a little more than a decade with Raj TV. The recruitment for various other positions is on in full swing at the Polimer Media premises in Royapettah.

Polimer Media has been successfully running local cable television channels in Salem and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu for the past several years and claims to have a large viewership after Sun TV in these pockets.

The channel would have news oriented interactive talk shows, game shows, informative soaps besides the cinema and cinema based content. “The channel will focus on social awareness programmes. We will package our news bulletins in a completely different and innovative way from the existing Tamil channels,'' Kalairajan said.

Kalyanasundaram refused to disclose the initial outlay for launching the channel but said that they would leave no stone unturned in ensuring quality, be it equipment, people or content. He added that it would not be “just another channel”.
