PIX, Ashok Amritraj jointly open the ‘Gateway’ to Hollywood

PIX, the English movie channel from SET India, and Ashok Amritraj, Founder and CEO of Hyde Park Entertainment, have announced the launch of ‘Gateway’, India’s first reality TV show on filmmaking. The show will cover an intensive nationwide search for India’s most promising new director, who would then get an opportunity to direct a Hollywood film that would be produced by Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment.

‘Gateway’ will be PIX’s maiden local production of a television series that will air exclusively on the channel.

Amritraj said, “I have been eager to work with Indian filmmakers for a long time. ‘Gateway’ was inspired by my goal to make a path for talented filmmakers to tread. I approached PIX over a year ago with the notion for a show, and since then we have refined the format together and are now excited to launch a new show that is sure to grab the attention of all aspiring filmmakers in India.”

‘Gateway’ will commence its activities on August 1, 2007 with an all-India call for entries. Aspiring filmmakers would be invited to send short films of 2-4 minutes duration, and 50 finalists from around India would be selected and interviewed in the next selection round. Eighteen final contestants would then be chosen and brought to Mumbai to compete in the show.

The final winner will receive an intensive eight week internship with Hyde Park Entertainment before he embarking on directing his first film ever.

Sunder Aaron, Business Head, PIX, said, “Great storytellers make great filmmakers, and with Ashok Amritraj’s help and guidance, we will find that great hidden talent in India.”

According to Amritraj, it was easy for people to use mobile phones and laptops to make movies. “If someone also has a compelling story to tell and needs guidance in terms of making a movie, then I would be happy to provide him with the same,” he added.
