Pankaj Pachauri's Go News granted NBA membership

Pankaj Pachauri’s Go News has been granted the membership of the News Broadcasters Association (NBA). The decision was taken at a meeting held on May 9 by the NBA, an industry body representing the collective interests of the news broadcasting community. “On compliance of all the requirements of NBA, associate membership has been granted to Cloudburst Mediaworks Pvt. Ltd with effect from May 18,” said Pankaj Pachauri, Editor-in-Chief & Director, Go News.

Claiming to be the first digital broadcaster to come under the purview of NBA, he mentioned that the membership rules of NBA had to be tweaked to include Go News. “We would like other digital broadcasters to adhere to NBA guidelines and increase credibility quotient of digital journalism in India,” added Pachauri. Launched initially on March 11, the day of the 2017 assembly election results, Go News is an app-driven digital news channel that seeks to further new-age journalism. Funded by Pachauri’s “well-wishers”, the venture seeks to go beyond annoying anchors and advertisements by presenting factual news. Though it’s still early days for Go News, the digital news channel has done some hard-hitting coverage on the leak of private data by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

In January, exchange4media was first to report on the then upcoming venture which marked the comeback of Pachauri to full-time journalism. After a stint with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) under Dr Manmohan Singh during the days of United Progressive Alliance government, Pachauri forayed into academics by bagging a senior administrative post at Jaypee Business School.

However, the former presenter of ‘Hum Log’ on NDTV soon decided to make an attempt at changing the face of modern journalism through a non-profit media initiative in the form of Go News. Having been a renowned journalist and anchor, he was successful in stitching together a team of experienced media professionals and novices who are now telling news stories through mobile-first videos, GIFS and graphics backed by data.
