P7 News turns one; looks to create high definition-ready news operations

Hindi news channel P7 News celebrated its first anniversary on March 27, 2010. Launched by Pearls Broadcasting Corporation Pvt Ltd, P7 News’ prime focus is on social and development stories across the country. Pearls Broadcasting is now looking to create a high definition-ready news operation using its Broadcast Media Library/ Media Client (BML/ MCL) digital video platform in India. For the purpose, it has selected Sea Change Video Servers for P7 News. Sea Change International is a leader in video-on-demand, IPTV, broadcast and advertising systems.

P7 news channel has provided an entire spectrum of emotions to its viewers, a value that is well captured in its tagline – ‘Ek Umeed’ (A ray of Hope). After the channel’s success in Delhi, it was launched in Mumbai on September 23, 2009.

Commenting on the completion of a year, Jyoti Narain, Director, P7 News Channel, said, “We began with a vision to present a credible and authentic news channel and our first year has been a great success. Through serious programming and authentic reporting, we have created a niche for ourselves in India’s dynamic news and entertainment environment. In terms of viewership numbers and popularity, P7 News claims to have consistently outdone all news channels that were launched in the similar period. The channel was rated as Mumbai’s most watched Hindi news channel with 14.4 per cent viewership in week 48 (Source: TAM).

Some of its popular programmes include lifestyle show ‘Stylista’; ‘Bindia’, a show for women; ‘Grahon Ki Shatranj’; ‘Batain Zamin Jayadat Ki’, a real estate show; ‘Real Estate’, ‘Kaida Kanoon’ and ‘Speed’.

The channel has also been associated with several events and activities ranging from social cause to sports and entertainment.

P7 News, which covers both entertainment and serious news from all around the world, is headed by experts from the media industry. The ‘P’ in the name signifies Performance, Perfection, Perseverance, Passion, Pursuance, Presentation of thoughts and the company’s name Pearl. The number ‘7’ signifies seven days of the week, seven continents, seven colours in the rainbow, seven notes of music, seven chakras of the human body, seven wonders of the world, and also represents Ketu planet of spiritual enlightenment.
