Stage is set for NewsNext 2009, being held in the Capital on August 26 by the exchange4media Group. The day-long conference will focus on a host of industry-relevant issues such as ‘Effects of Recession, Regulation & Rising Costs on News Broadcasting’, ‘And the ratings-content debate continues…’, and ‘National Today, Regional Tomorrow’, among others. Times Now is the main sponsor of NewsNext 2009. The event partner was Encompass.
Riddled by the economic slowdown, regulation pressures and rising costs, 2008-09 has seen news broadcasters bruised, but battling ahead. Thus ‘Triumph over Travails’ has been chosen as the theme for NewsNext 2009. The annual conference will see all stakeholders of the news broadcasting industry deliberate on issues that concern the trade and craft and collectively mull over ways to emerge from the slowdown.
The news media broadcasting domain in India sees significant attention for the kind of content and the momentum that the genre is witnessing here. In light of the challenge that the genre faces, the exchange4media Group has instituted ‘NewsNext’. The conference aims at looking at various aspects of the news business, identify the problem areas and get all stakeholders of the business together to get a reality check on the domain.
The first edition of the conference was held in Delhi in August 2008. In its first year, NewsNext saw participation from the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, news broadcasters, and brand custodians.
The conference enables collective deliberation on the industry and its business imperatives. It also serves as a platform for marketers and advertisers to evaluate the momentum of this medium in the current social milieu and what its impact would be going forward.
Minister of Information & Broadcasting Ambika Soni will make the opening remarks at NewsNext 2009. Some of the prominent speakers at the conference this year include Rajat Sharma of India TV, G Krishnan of TV Today, Raj Nayak of NDTV Media, Chintamani Rao of Times Now, Jehangir Pocha of NewsX, Suhel Seth of Counselage, Anita Nayyar of Havas Media, and Meenakshi Madhvani of Spatial Access, among many others.
