News channels in rewind mode, crystal ball gazing for New Year celebrations

With general entertainment channels all geared up to welcome 2008, news channels too have got their act right to bid adieu to 2007 in style. Most news channels have their own versions of the most important events of the year. Comic spoofs and crystal ball gazing also form part of the New Year fare on most news channels.

The last day of the year will have CNN-IBN broadcast a host of programmes from sports to musicals like ‘Sports 365’ at 7:30 pm, ‘Top 10 Events’ at 8 pm and ‘2007: A Musical’ at 9:30 pm. IBN7 will telecast ‘Aaja Has Le’ at 4 pm, ‘Musical 2007’ at 5:30 pm and ‘Kismat ke Card’ with Ma Prem Usha at 7 pm on December 31 at 4 pm, ‘Musical 2007’ at 5:30 pm and ‘Kismat ke Card’ with Ma Prem Usha at 7 pm on December 31.

News 24, the first news channel from BAG Films and Media Ltd telecast an hour-long special programme titled ‘Newsroom Main King Khan’ on December 29 and December 30 at 7.30 pm. The channel will air ‘Tarrot Card 2008’ at 7.30 pm on December 31, which would focus on how the coming year would unfold for top personalities from different walks of life. News 24 will also air two satirical programmes – ‘Saal Dhammal’ and ‘Trailer 2008’ – on December 31 starting at 10 pm. There would also be live coverage of New Year celebrations from all over India and the world.

NDTV India and NDTV 24x7 have also planned a bouquet of special shows on December 31. NDTV India plans to ring in the New Year with a special show ‘Shuruat Toh Karo’ at 11:30 am, and ‘60 Years of Music’, a melodious journey of Bollywood music, at 12:30 pm. ‘Saat Ka Safar’ would be aired at 2 pm. NDTV 24x7 would telecast ‘Rewind – 2007’, a special year-ender show anchored by Vikram Chandra at 8:00 pm.

Star News is airing an hour-long special programme ‘Teen Deviyan Special’ in the three days leading to the New Year on December 29, 30 and 31 at 7 am. Viewers can also look forward to some funny moments with ‘Raju Ka Recap’, a special one hour recap of popular comedian Raju Srivastava and his entourage’s show on December 29, 30 and 31 in between 6 pm and 7 pm.

Other New Year specials on Star News include ‘7 Pm Special’, a half an hour special segment on amazing videos, telecast on December 29, 30 and 31 at 7 pm; ‘Raju Special’, another variation of ‘Hansoge to Phasonge’ at 9:30 pm on December 29, 30 and 31; ‘Bolo Tara Lara’, an astrology special.

Movies and astrology lead the New Year celebrations on Aaj Tak. The channel aired ‘Thahaka Cinema’, a year-ender on films and film stars by Bhagwant Maan on December 29 at 9-10 pm; an Anjan Batliwala spoof on well-known astrologer Bejan Daruwala on December 30 at 8.30-9 pm; and ‘Aapka Naya Saal’, an annual forecast by astrologer Suresh Kausha.

Aaj Tak would air ‘Aaj Tak Awards’, an annual show on top personalities in sports, cinema and business from 9 pm to 10 pm, and ‘Dekh Le India’, a year-ender comedy show from 10 pm to 11.30 pm. The channel would also air live coverage of New Year celebrations from across the world from 11.30 pm onwards on December 31.

India TV’s New Year line-up includes special shows like ‘Jai Shani Maharaj’, a dial-in programme; ‘Dus Hit Film’; ‘Dus Taqrar’; ‘2008 Mein Kya Karega Shani’; ‘Aa Dil Se Dil Mila Le’; ‘Ten Funny Videos’; ‘Ten Amazing International Videos’; ‘Dus Bhagwan’; ‘Naye Saal Ka Lucky Number’; ‘Mission India’; ‘Dus Kuware’; ‘2008 Mein Kaise Kare Thath’; and ‘Aaja Hans Le’.
