After failing to reach an understanding with Ten Sports regarding the live telecast of the football World Cup matches, Doordarshan is now trying to reach an agreement with Ten Sports to telecast only the opening match, the semi finals and the final.
According to sources, even if Doordarshan manages this, the telecast will be a delayed telecast, with Doordarshan telecasting the matches about 6 hours after the actual event. Delayed telecast also means a loss of revenue to Doordarshan.
This also means that the World Cup matches would not be available real time in the terrestrial network for Indian consumers.
According to industry analysts, consumers will now have to fully depend on the feed from Ten Sports to view the matches. Doordarshan will be under pressure to reach some agreement with Ten Sports to telecast the matches in India.
