Just the way fictional characters have fan following, people on non-fiction or reality shows are also increasingly leaving lasting impressions on the audiences.

The latest season of ‘Nach Baliye’ premiered on December 29, 2012 on Star Plus. The series is hosted by Gautam Rode and Karan Wahi. Rahul Mahajan is one of the contestants of the show.

exchange4media chats with Rajeeb Dash to find out what he likes about Rahul Mahajan…

Who is your favourite character in the Indian television space?
My favourite television character is ‘Rahul Mahajan’ from ‘Nach Baliye’ Season Five.

What do you like about Rahul Mahajan?
I think that Rahul comes across as a genuine personality in the show and doesn't put on any pretence to attract audience attention. Also, I like the way he makes an effort to dance even though he isn't a dancer.

Do you think he does justice to the show?
I think he justifies his role in the show since he adds fun and drama and I think people have stared liking him in the show as well.

Do you think the popularity of a particular character extends itself to the show or a show shapes up the characters?
Well, according to me, a character extends beyond the show. For example, the contestants on ‘Bigg Boss’ would be known owing to their portrayal of themselves on the show and would be offered roles based on the same. Also, I think characters on a show are brands for the consumers and they create a unique identity for themselves by associating with various shows.

How often do you tune in to ‘Nach Baliye’?
I watch the show on weekends as and when it is aired.
